The historical account of the birth of the early church is recorded in the book of Acts (Scholars agree around AD 54-64), written by Luke the physician. As a devoted disciple and a companion of the Apostle Paul, he journeyed with him to accomplish the great commission. The divine work of the Lord Jesus Christ through his suffering on the cross, death, burial and resurrection, the Son of God had completed the salvation plan for everyone who believes in the miracle of God's saving grace.
The apostles were to become witnesses to Jerusalem, and in all Judaea and Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Two prominent preachers journeyed throughout Asia Minor to voice the plan of salvation to all who would hear the truth. The Apostle Paul evangelized the Gentiles and the Apostle Peter whose evangelical effort reached out to the Jews to impart the truth of the Good News of the salvation plan by God. It is noted in Psalms 8: the rendering of the love of God for mankind. "What is man, that art mindful of him? and the son of man. that thou visitest him." Jesus walked on this earth and called twelve men and carefully taught them about heaven and his master plan for eternity. In Matthew 16 ... Jesus asked his disciples " Who do people say the son of Man is?" They each gave a different reply in error. Then Jesus said, "But what about you? Who do you say I am?" Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Matthew 16:18 The Lord declares the following; "And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and gates of Hades will not prevail against it. Matthew 16:19a " I will give you the keys to the kingdom heaven." The keys to the God's kingdom is an open door to understanding of who God is and of His promise of salvation in His name!
The Lord spent forty days with all eleven apostles before he ascended into heaven. As instructed by Jesus the disciples tarried in Jerusalem. There the Spirit of God fell on upon 120 people, and Peter gave an inspired word to the question about ...what must one do to be saved. Peter spoke with boldness the plan of salvation written in Acts 2:38, adding the Scripture verse 39 that is full of promise to future generations and all those who are afar off. The suffering of the sacrificial lamb of God paid the price for our eternal reward through his redemptive blood. Acts 2:38 clearly explains that by (1) by Repentance ( 2) Water Baptism by immersion in the name of Jesus (3) And the infilling of the Holy Ghost. "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
The Lord has prepared a heavenly place for us and by a simple act of faith and taking these steps we fulfill the plan of of God. A renewal of life awaits every believer in this world. And we look for that blessed hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, the Savior, King of kings and Lord of Lords.
In the year of ’1906 a prayer meeting known as the The Azusa Street Revival lasted for about three years. Incredible testimonies of the blessings from God were heard throughout Los Angeles. It started at 214 North Bonnie Brae Street in the heart of the city. Many people eagerly attended and most were drawn by a spiritual hunger to know the power God by receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost ( Such as in the book of Acts 2:38; 120 received the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. Scripture declares (Acts 1:8) all the disciples, Mary the mother of Jesus, heard the sound of a mighty rushing wind, all who were present had cloven tongues above their heads, like as of fire, and they were all filled and spoke with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Jesus spoke to the Apostles in Acts 1:8 ….
“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the world.”
> Los Angeles, CA- William Seymour a devout African-American preacher, traveled from another state to pursue what God had in store. He led the daily prayer meetings as directed by the Spirit of God. A great gathering of people attended the revival, and soon it was necessary to move to a larger building, what once was stable for animals. While it offered more room, it was not the most pleasant surroundings. But the strong move of God performed miracles, deep worship and stirred a zealous desire for the infilling of the gift of the Holy Ghost during the prayer meetings. Mr. W. Seymour’s invitation to come to California from Texas was by divine providence in search for the blessed gift from God. He fasted and prayed for ten days to prepare his heart and mind for the gift of the Holy Ghost. People from Memphis TN, South Carolina, Mexico and Europe traveled to receive the great blessings from God. Reverend Lawrence Hadley was a very sick little boy with tuberculosis and was miraculously healed. He become a Pastor in Pasadena, CA. Little Mattie Cummings was deaf from birth, and at one of the services, she was touched with a miracle by the hand of God - both ears were opened and no longer was deaf. Praise God! '... For I am the LORD, who heals you. Exodus 15:26 Much to our amazement the good news traveled around the world and touched the lives as many as 600,000 people. Everyday we see biblical prophecies fulfilled in this world; wars and rumors of wars, immoral behavior, violence, the economy falls short. This is a perfect time to pray for God's help with our every need. "Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is in the Lord." Jeremiah 17:7 - We have a promise in the Word of God. Psalms 119:130, "Thy entrance of thy words giveth light..." And in His word is our hope!
Acts 2:38 - Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
The following Scriptures give to us understanding of the treasury in the gift of the Holy Ghost. Jesus Christ our Lord gives this powerful help to us freely. All we have to do is ask for it sincerely in prayer without fear but in simple faith. A gift that promises to comfort, and to bring good things to our remembrance in times of concern (all we need to do is ask). The Holy Ghost is a powerful gift that provides strength and courage when we find ourselves lost and filled with uncertainty. The Lord promises, He would not leave us nor forsake us. And it is in this way, we are helped throughout our lives. " For the Lord will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance." Psalms 94: 14 When you pray go before the Lord boldly, with confidence because he cares for you and your family. Praying will bring you a sense of peace and protection in the presence of the Lord. Seek the experience of the infilling of the Holy Ghost you will find yourself speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance, truly this is a heavenly language that fills us with great joy. The first experience is found in the New Testament in Acts 2:38 (verse 39 is a promise to all generations). To add to your understanding, I invite you to please read the following few Scriptures in your Bible:
· Acts 1:8 – But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you ….
· Acts 2:3-4 – And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost….
